Fashion swipes…

When I decide to move to Italy, I sold most everything I owned. Clean slate. I did keep two books. One on fashion, the other on interiors, plus a back issue VOGUE from February 1976. On my first trip back to the States, I retrieved these, brought them back to Italy and have referred to them… always… for inspiration, nostalgia… well, for serendipity!

I pulled the fashion book out this afternoon and took some swipes. Sounds disrespectful. Not intended. But, I do believe a fleeting memory of an image bears more fruit, in the long run, than full face on. Oblique to direct. More interesting, no? I chose my favorites. The book… American Fashion edited by Sarah Tomerlin Lee for the Fashion Institute of Technology, a New York Times Book 1975… is a very focused selection of past greats… legends… of American fashion design. Who has ever heard of Adrian, McCardell, Mainbocher, Norell or Trigere… much less remember them? I have and do. These designers deserve to be… for always. Here is a medley…

This post is dedicated to My Friend, Frank.
