Infinitely beautiful…

It may be stretching the meaning of Serendipity but, I dare anyone to propose a more magnificent, fascinating or, moving monument than the Cemetery of Staglieno for the city of Genoa… in Italy. An immense complex of tombs, crypts, mausoleums & simple graves, both inside the huge palazzo-like mausoleum of long corridors built around the courtyards of graves and the rambling necropolis of other tombs & crypts climbing the Ligurian hills above. As was the custom, there are areas dedicated to paupers, Protestants & Jews, naturally, outside the main Catholic quarters of the cemetery. A large Pantheon like church dominates the lower grounds, while the higher is a spectacle of spires, pinnacles & statues projecting through & past the array of cypress tress.

A surprising detail of Staglieno is to come upon the tombstone of the sadly betrayed wife of Oscar Wilde in the Protestant area of the cemetery.

So now, feast your eyes on the photos and the video tour of the cemetery below…
